RAMO Lab's AI-RAN Testbed Featured in NVIDIA Aerial Official Documentation

September 14, 2026 | Featured in NVIDIA Aerial Documentation

The Robotic and Mobile Networks Laboratory (RAMO), led by Professor Seong-Lyun Kim at Yonsei University, has been featured in the Community Showcase section of NVIDIA's official Aerial Testbed documentation for its GPU-accelerated AI-RAN testbed and 5G network interoperability demonstration supporting Physical AI.

Under the title “Private AI-RAN and Commercial 5G for Physical AI,” NVIDIA highlights RAMO Lab's GPU-accelerated virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN), successful connectivity with commercial 5G devices, and network transition demonstration between private AI-RAN and a commercial 5G network.

Key Highlights

  • NVIDIA Aerial-Based GPU-Accelerated vRAN Testbed: RAMO Lab developed a GPU-accelerated vRAN testbed using NVIDIA Aerial with DGX Spark or H100 GPU platforms. The system accelerates Layer 1 (L1) processing on GPUs and integrates a commercial O-RU operating in Korea's 4.7 GHz private 5G spectrum (n79), enabling over-the-air experimentation in realistic wireless environments.

  • End-to-End Connectivity with Commercial 5G Devices: The team successfully connected an iPhone to the private 5G network and demonstrated end-to-end connectivity through applications including YouTube streaming. This validated the operation of commercial user equipment within the GPU-accelerated vRAN environment.

  • Interoperability with LG Uplus's Commercial 5G Network: In collaboration with LG Uplus, RAMO Lab demonstrated a network transition between its private AI-RAN operating at 4.7 GHz (n79) and LG Uplus's commercial 5G network operating at 3.5 GHz (n78). An industrial mobile device automatically selected an appropriate network as radio conditions changed while maintaining connectivity. This demonstration illustrates a practical approach to supporting service continuity for mobile Physical AI applications, including robots and drones.

The NVIDIA documentation also outlines RAMO Lab's future research directions, including evaluating CPU utilization and processing overhead under GPU acceleration, as well as investigating AI-RAN architectures in which a single GPU simultaneously supports real-time RAN processing and AI inference workloads.

Through this feature in NVIDIA's official documentation, RAMO Lab's AI-RAN testbed development and experimental validation have been shared with the broader international research and developer community. RAMO Lab will continue advancing GPU-based vRAN, edge AI, and next-generation 5G/6G wireless networking technologies for Physical AI.
