Yonsei University and LG Uplus have successfully verified service continuity and seamless network switching technology within an AI-RAN (AI Radio Access Network) environment. Interoperability tests were conducted between Yonsei University’s self-developed NVIDIA GPU-accelerated L1 vRAN testbed (Private 5G, n79 at 4.7 GHz) and LG Uplus’s commercial 5G mobile network (Public 5G, n78 at 3.5 GHz).

Key Highlights:

  • Seamless Roaming and Service Continuity: The verification simulated scenarios where Physical AI equipment—such as autonomous robots and drones—moves between the private AI-RAN test network and the public 5G network. The system confirmed that devices automatically select the optimal network according to changing radio environments and maintain uninterrupted, stable connectivity.

  • Testing Platform & Devices: The interoperability verification was executed using industrial mobile devices (Point Mobile PM95) connected to the GPU-accelerated vRAN platform.

  • A New Industry-Academia Model: While private and public 5G have traditionally served separate business sectors in South Korea, this milestone demonstrates a collaborative model for AI-Native Networks, enabling shared computing and data infrastructure across both domains.

  • SME Testbed Support: LG Uplus and Yonsei University plan to open this environment to domestic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to test and validate AI-RAN technologies, serving as a global launchpad testbed.

Statements on the Collaboration:

  • "6G mobile communication will be designed from the ground up with AI and evolve to support advanced AI applications. This verification is a meaningful example of industry-academia collaboration, confirming that Physical AI services can maintain seamless connectivity when transitioning between AI-RAN testbeds and commercial mobile networks."   — Professor Seong-Lyun Kim, School of EEE, Yonsei University

  • "As Physical AI technology advances, networks must also evolve to autonomously analyze environments and deliver optimal quality. LG Uplus will continue to advance wireless network technology through AI and provide stable connectivity for future industrial services."   — Sang-heon Lee, Head of Network Advanced Development, LG Uplus
